December 10, 2025 – OPPO officially announced the signing of a global patent license agreement with Audi AG, granting the automaker access to its cellular communication Standard Essential Patents (SEPs), including key 5G technologies. This landmark collaboration marks a new phase of deep integration between consumer electronics communication innovations and the automotive industry’s digital transformation.

Under the agreement, OPPO will license its core 5G cellular communication SEPs to Audi, covering critical technical links in 5G connectivity that provide stable and efficient support for in-vehicle communication systems. As smart vehicles increasingly demand advanced connectivity capabilities, 5G technology has become the cornerstone for enabling autonomous driving data transmission, vehicle-to-everything (V2X) interaction, and remote control functions. Michael Fritz, Chief Intellectual Property Licensing Officer at Audi, stated: “Our patent license agreement with OPPO demonstrates that SEP licensing negotiations can progress in a constructive and balanced manner.” He added that leveraging OPPO’s 5G expertise will further optimize the intelligent connectivity performance of Audi’s vehicle lineup, enhancing user experiences in in-car communication, entertainment, and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).
As a global leader in smart devices, OPPO has made substantial investments in 5G R&D, building a robust portfolio of SEPs. To date, the company’s 5G patents have been authorized in multiple countries and regions worldwide. This partnership with Audi represents a significant milestone in the cross-industry application of OPPO’s patent portfolio. Vincent Lin, Head of Patent Licensing at OPPO, commented: “This collaboration reflects the shared vision of a wireless technology leader and the automotive industry in advancing seamless connectivity and cross-sector cooperation.” He emphasized OPPO’s commitment to fostering the development of smart mobility and the Internet of Things (IoT) through ongoing technological innovation.
Industry analysts note that patent collaborations between consumer electronics firms and traditional automakers are emerging as a key industry trend. Such cross-industry partnerships enable automakers to rapidly access mature communication technologies while reducing R&D costs, while allowing consumer electronics companies to maximize the value of their intellectual property. This synergistic development is expected to drive the coordinated growth of both the electronic communication and automotive sectors, accelerating the global adoption of intelligent mobility solutions.
OPPO’s latest agreement with Audi follows similar bilateral patent licenses with other major automakers, underscoring the growing recognition of its cellular communication SEPs in the automotive field. The company’s consistent focus on building a sustainable intellectual property ecosystem—through fair negotiations and non-coercive practices—has positioned it as a trusted partner for cross-industry innovation.
